THE DEATH OF A DREAM
With coy eyes she looks around,
And finds no one to call her own;
In a promise of eternal love,
she found hollow resolve.
She thinks of the days she used to be worshipped,
As a new decorative doll, a beautiful thing to be played with;
Hardly of age, she knew nothing
Her hopes shattered and dreams remained unfulfilled.
How she wished her life was happy,
She wanted to live, love, laugh and be merry;
With tear-filled eyes she wanted to ask her mother,
"Was I not wanted in the first place?"
With a fragile heart but a strong soul,
She prays;
Of days to come, of future to be made;
And she closes her eyes and dreams...
And finds no one to call her own;
In a promise of eternal love,
she found hollow resolve.
She thinks of the days she used to be worshipped,
As a new decorative doll, a beautiful thing to be played with;
Hardly of age, she knew nothing
Her hopes shattered and dreams remained unfulfilled.
How she wished her life was happy,
She wanted to live, love, laugh and be merry;
With tear-filled eyes she wanted to ask her mother,
"Was I not wanted in the first place?"
With a fragile heart but a strong soul,
She prays;
Of days to come, of future to be made;
And she closes her eyes and dreams...
"In a promise of eternal love, she found hollow resolve." Poignant. Keep it up :)

DeleteYour appreciation means a lot!
how her hopes can be shattered? if she has very special positive eyes to see what most of the others don't have, tell her to don't close her eyes and dreams. she is strong enough.
ReplyDeleteThe theme of this poem is child marriage. I have attempted to capture the pain of an under-age bride through my words.
